I am exquiring to anser a question I have, I do not neec the history of the car breakdown services or their current performance statistics. I know they are good sometimes (rescued my family) and sometimes, like all others, they can be slow at peak times.
Has anyone heard of ‘AutoAid Breakdown Recovery Insurance’? And if so, what do you think?
It appears to be a breakdown service with a difference, in that you pay the costs yourself and then recover them from the insurance company (Boncaster).
The premium seems to be a lot cheaper than the usual breakdown cover. I’ve been quoted £37 for the year.
I will be grateful to hear of anyones experiences. Thanks
vehicle breakdown after service – soap opera nightmare?
I had a vehicle engine serviced in May 2010. I was told that a new crankshaft was needed. The mechanic and I agreed to have it serviced, giving his company a partial payment. When I picked up the vehicle in June 2010, I payed the remaining balance. I drove the car off the premises, called the mechanic explaining that when idling, vehicle was choking. The vehicle needed gas, drove to the station and returned, found that a vacuum hose was not connected. Connected. Had the vehicle about a week and found oil all over driveway after backing car out of driveway and saw oil light on – turned ignition off immediately. Had car towed back and found oil drain plug was missing. Repaired w/ charges including additional findings of leaks in engine gaskets. Took a couple weeks to have repaired. August 2010, total vehicle breakdown. Called business owner and mechanic to explain problem. Repair company in process of moving and had no place to have it towed to. No assistance with tow or place to take it to. Repair shop owner tells me to call mechanic. Mechanic states he is no longer employed with repair shop. i state to owner that mechanic gave me a “verbal” warranty. (which I have found may have legal responsibilities tied with it.) Owner was unaware of warranty. Warranty was stated while mechanic worked for repair shop owner. We have not finished our discussions of repair/refund but it appears that these guys are going to pull every trick in the book. This is the worst case of business I have ever witnessed. I am financially stretched as for the reason for taking vehicle to such a place. Reporting to BBB will not do much for me. I have receipts with dates and detail of services. I don’t need a life lesson, but looking for possible legal advice. Thank you.
